FAQs

How many seasons is this tent rated for? Can I use this tent year round?

  • The Tracker is a 3-season tent. While not a 4-season alpine tent it has specs that can handle year round use and handles winds well. These tents are versatile and prioritize breathability, ventilation, and protection from rain and wind to handle New Zealand’s challenging weather conditions. Note that while these tents are excellent for the majority of camping situations, they are not recommended for winter alpine camping or extreme weather conditions when specialized alpine tents designed for winter or 4-season are more appropriate.

What is silnylon? And polyester?

  • Silicone-coated nylon (silnylon) often with a polyurethane PU coating in the underside and polyester with a polyurethane (PU) coating are two different types of materials used in the construction of camping tents. A thinner, lighter silnylon fabric than more traditional thicker polyester makes for a lighter more compact packed tent. The silicone coating adds to tear strength and a waterproof PU coating means seams can be taped. Read our Tent Fabrics intro for more info

What is the difference between the Tracker Pro 2 and the Tracker 2 tents?

  • The tent design is the same but the fabric and some of the componentry is different. The Tracker 2 Pro is made using a lighter Silnylon fabric making it around 250g lighter with a smaller packed size. It also has YKK zips, hi-viz zipper pulls and tensioners, and comes in a green fly and grey floor. The Tracker 2 Polyester tent is made using a thicker, heavier Polyester fabric meaning it is a little heavier at 1.95kg and packs down a little heavier that the PRO version, standard zips and zipper pulls. Colour options are Olive green and Orange.

Is this suitable for 2 people?

  • The Tracker 2 is a great option for people looking for a tent with plenty of room for 1 and also have the option of accommodating 2 people if needed. It’s a roomy 1 person tent and cosy 2 person. The Tracker 2 floor has a 130cm wide inner at the entrance and tapers off to 100cm at the foot end.

Is this tent waterproof?

  • Yes, the Tracker has a PU3000mm PU coating on the fly and PU5000mm on the floor. These ratings will handle most weather conditions in NZ. Read our waterproofing intro for more info

Do I need a groundsheet?

  • A groundsheet is optional – you can use this tent in full confidence without a groundsheet. The groundsheet is designed specifically for this tent and sits a few cm inside the inner floor to ensure that water does not get trapped in between. There are aluminium eyelets at the corners that can be used to hold it in place. The groundsheet offers …
  • greater protection of the tent floor extending its life
  • keeps the floor clean
  • boosts floor waterproofing in wet conditions
  • provides and extra layer of insulation
  • reduces moisture rising up and causing condensation
  • ability to set up the tent fly first or fly without the inner

Longtime Ironman Wearer -- I Hate This Watch
Color: Black
I've worn the old Ironman 100 Lap Watch for Years I would still be wearing those watches if the Indigo on them didn't consistently fail. My main requisite is large, easy to read digital display, and the ability to turn the Indiglo on 20 seconds a day once or twice to see time in dark. If I could have found a simple watch with a large display made by any other reputable manufacturer I would have bought it instead. I have truly come to dislike Timex because their Indiglo fails so consistently, on (5) different Ironman's I've owned. Doubt this one'll be any better, viewing it a disposable purchase after a year. Unsurprisingly, Timex is an American company, all marketing no quality, and yes I'm an American, looking at something Casio Seiko, Swiss or Japanese made. They get fundamentals right in terms of quality. The band on this is redesigned. Grippier. Tougher to adjust or put on, but more apt to stay on and not slide once on. I'm used to the old band, don't love or hate this new one. I will usually take my watch off while typing for a long time, not as easy to do with this, not a dealbreaker, can see the sense in making a swimming and exercise watchband a bit tougher. I hate the branding on this watch. Bright red Ironman logo on both ends of the band near the watch. Even worse is the Timex and Ironman words ATOP the glass on the watch. This means they throw shadows down onto the watch face below the glass. This effect gets even worse with the magnification underwater. Inexcusable design flaw, simply so some corporation can self-advertise its products. The combination of these two sets of branding make the watch look cheap, gaudy, and inappropriate for any remotely formal wearing. This would not have been the case if it was understated in color scheme. Without the two red marks on the band, and the absolutely moronic decision to place the branding on the watch glass, you have something understated you could get away wearing all the time. Not with the branding. There are also two lines running horizontally above and below the time. I hate these when I'm looking at it underwater. Haven't tried the lap functions yet, I usually open lake swim, maybe the lines help with that, but for my use I hate them. I'm 6'4" tall, people complain the watch is big, it feels to me if anything a bit undersized or the proper size, others may find it big. I would rather have a slightly larger size with bigger numbers. Biggest plus is time SUPER easy to read. I'd love to be able to turn date off and only have time display and nothing else in some mode. I don't need to check the date 6 times a day. Love to have mode where I press one button, upper left say, and date shows for five seconds or something. Indiglo about the same as old big Ironman 100, excellent--when it doesn't break which it almost always does. I have many of these watches where the time still shows but Indiglo never works, Timex themselves admitted to me this is a known problem. The rounder face, versus rectangular, better looks, but wonder if it is optimal way to make most readable. I would pass on this watch. I have always liked Ironman watches, but the branding is so bad, glass especially, and the absymal quality of Timex Indiglo, are unacceptable.

Cool & functional
Color: Pink
Attractive watch. Simplistic, yet cannot understand everything without not having instructions. Watch did no come with instructions, which became hard to figure out all its functions.

Excellent watch
Color: Black, Gray
Great watch. Waterproof and I use the timer all the time. I'm on my 3rd or 4th one over 20 to 25 years. When the battery dies, I just buy another one because at that point in time the band is usually also going bad.

Rugged Watch at Good Price
Color: Black, Gray
I originally wanted a G-Shock but I have a small wrist and G-Shocks come with cases that are too big for my 6.1 inch wrist. An alternative? I bought the Timex Ironman. It has a rugged look and many of the features of a G-Shock but at a lower price. Small wrist? Or don't want to spend the money for a G-Shock? This is your best bet.
